About Us

terralayr is a fully integrated next-generation energy flexibility provider founded in 2023, with headquarters in Zug and Berlin. Our mission is to unlock the full value of energy storage in the renewable age by aggregating and virtualizing battery capacity across Germany - transforming it into a scalable, tradable, and instantly accessible flexibility layer for the power grid.

The global energy transition is in full swing. But as wind and solar power rapidly scale, the electricity system is struggling to keep up. Renewable energy is intermittent, and the best generation sites are often far from demand centers. As a result, grids become congested, renewable power is curtailed, and fossil fuels are still required to fill supply gaps. In Germany alone, over 10 TWh of clean energy were wasted in 2023 due to infrastructure bottlenecks - costing billions and undermining climate goals.

Energy storage is essential to address these challenges, offering the flexibility to balance supply and demand in real time. But battery storage has historically been built in a fragmented, static, and underutilized way. Asset owners face high capital expenditure, opaque returns, and limited commercialization options. Meanwhile, buyers of flexibility — traders, utilities, corporates - cannot access the storage capacity they need in an efficient or transparent way.

terralayr solves this.

Our proprietary Layr platform aggregates and virtualizes both owned and third-party battery assets into one cloud-like environment. Through a single interface, capacity is made available to offtakers via auctions, structured products, or API-driven transactions. Assets are optimized portfolio-wide to maximize value and adapt dynamically to market conditions.

We enable:

  • Asset owners to earn better, more predictable returns with no long-term lock-in
  • Flexibility buyers to access storage capacity on demand, without owning physical infrastructure
  • Grid stakeholders to reduce volatility, curtailment, and fossil dependency

Our three core innovations:

  1. Aggregation & Virtualization - bundling decentralized storage into a unified platform
  2. Proprietary Energy Products - tailored offerings for utilities, traders, and industrials
  3. Meta-Optimization - intelligent routing of capacity to its highest-value use case at any time

Our vision is to become the leading marketplace for virtual energy flexibility in Europe, bridging the gap between battery infrastructure and energy markets - and accelerating the shift to a clean, resilient power system.
